Composing….The Story Behind The Music

Hi Everybody!
Have you ever composed a piece of music, wrote a story, painted a picture, or wrote a speech? If you have...you know it can be an arduous process, or it can just flow like it was meant to come forward.
Here's the story behind the title song of our album "My Heart Is For You".

Composing….The Story Behind The Music

MY HEART IS FOR YOU began in my heartjust a feeling... and found its way onto the keys of our piano.  As I played a few different chord progressions, the words and music began to emerge.  A romantic melody begged for the words of this little Italian phrase….that I repeated over and over in my mind.. ..Il mio cuor’ è per te.   I stopped and thought…I really need to write this down.  Soon a musical idea expanded into variations.  It was definitely a duet of subtleties.
My husband Doug then joined me at the piano putting the composition down on manuscript, embellishing  the accompaniment as we worked together to finish it.  The lyrics that inspired the chorus were absolutely spot on.   The verses needed some work.  Time to get our son Jeremy’s input .  He has always been a poetic writer, and he worked with me to come up with the text for the two verses.  When the three of us were in agreement with our final composition, we went to an arranger to prepare the manuscript for the instrumentalists. Recording sessions began, additional orchestration was added, and the rest is history.  Even though the song tells the story of two lost lovers, it contains the  heart of many…composers, arrangers, musicians and technicians.  The song started as nothing more than a melody inspired by a little Italian phrase.   But,  the dedication, and artistry of many breathed life into this simple song.

Concept…The Story Behind The Music
The Concept of this album started with the idea of selecting not only our favorite classical songs, but songs that were loved and heard by many…songs that could be recorded in a non traditional way…with a sound reminiscent of the wine country and the small concert halls of Europe … songs that could  fit in with the cross-over genre of an original tune.  Check back for the story behind our composition.

The Story Behind the Music

FUN DOESN’T BEGIN TO DESCRIBE THE CREATION OF THIS ALBUM.
It has been a winding road of challenges and wonderful surprises.
From the selection of songs to the acknowledgement of the personal meanings
they have for us; from the composing of our original song and lyrics
to the recording and performing of it in studio... it has all been grand!

Adding to the amazingness of this journey was the motivation of our long time coach Richard Bower and the investment of time and talent from the musicians that accompanied us... Richard Bower at the piano, John Mery on guitar and mandolin, Keven Deitz on bass guitar, Gordan Rencher on castanets and tambourine, Mike Snyder on drums, and orchestration by Brian Rose... engineer/composer/performer .

MORE FUN…
Our collaboration with graphic artist Stacy Chase and photographer and creative Director David Papazian has always been amazing. Both of these talented people worked with us on our first album “That’s Amore”, and this one is no exception. David took some amazing images of us for this album, and was creative director for the production of our video of the title song of this album. Stacy took David’s photo and did her magic in creating a wonderful graphic interpretation of
our concept for the Album cover.

We still have much to do including, writing copy for the album booklet, selecting images, putting the finished product into production, replication, creating and pursuing our marketing plan to get the information out there to all of you so that you know where to find us, hear us and come see us perform. Stay tuned for the release of our new music video…the title song from this album.
